Reasonable Hysteria

Startled mice are not to blame
for taking flight when kitty came

An orangutan who throws his poo
is not liable like me or you

When doctor’s hammer hits a knee
the patient’s reflex is not he

So if you find inside your chest
a beating heart that will not rest

Perhaps it is not your decision
Passions won’t aim with precision

Some forces subdue the greatest will
Opposed to nature, all are nil

When subsumed by the transcendental
Grace defends those who aren’t rational

Intrepid irony in life’s refrain
the highest tribute one may gain

Is to be the leg-flexing knees
To be the mouse as he flees

Emancipate from self-restraint
Unhand control without complaint

All true lovers understand
No ally of lust carefully planned

His fervour with the abacus
Nor his zeal without a fuss

So revel in the chaotic mayhem
Should you be submerged in tidal abandon
